About Vigilante
Appearance
Black and blue hair tied in a pony tail.
Character Background
Malefic Beastification.
This is a phenomenon that usually occurs in Sacred Beasts and has never been found in humans.
But whether it's impossible or unknown is worth considering.
There are various cases, such as staying in a place where malefic energy is dense or being attacked by a Malefic Beast.
In general, humans who are exposed to the malefic energy become grotesquely distorted, lose their sense of self, and end up wandering around as Malefic Humans.
A few humans, however, embrace the malefic energy and survive as Malefic Beasts instead of Malefic Humans.
And so their tragedy begins.
Humans who undergo Malefic Beastification experience a great deal of confusion about their identity.
In the heat of the moment, they may lose control of their emotions and become a Malefic Beast, and when they regain their sense of self,
they may find themselves in the presence of their loved ones who have already been slaughtered.
Given the general perception of the malefic energy across Seon, they cannot even think of showing their true nature to anyone.
Inwardly, they must always remain calm in order to maintain their human self without being consumed by the malefic energy,
and outwardly, they must hide themselves to avoid being seen as Malefic Beasts.
Those who cannot withstand the tragedies that befall them may eventually choose to give up their ego and live as a full Malefic Beast.
Those who do not give up, however, continue to live as humans.
Those who survive know what they must do to continue living.
They must hide themselves and give meaning to their lives.
They want to find answers to the trials that have befallen them.
And ironically, it is the malefic energy that has brought them tragedy that helps them the most.
They still roam the dark streets today.
For those who thirst for revenge, Malefic Beastification is somewhere between a blessing and a curse.
As their bodies, accustomed to handling the malefic energy, become more powerful,
their minds, crushed by the excessive malefic energy, become unstable, even losing their reason.
When they bend down to the ground,
their weight on all fours feels more stable than on two,
and their forefeet pounding the ground gives them a tremendous sense of speed and power.
They don't lose all of their memories when they become Malefic Beasts, as is often rumored.
The explosion of power and malefic energy, seen from a completely different perspective, closer to the ground, lower than our usual eye level,
is a blur, like something out of a dream, but the unpleasant feelings of the moment are clear enough to take to the grave.
Movements and gaps in motion that are difficult to achieve with a human body.
Straddling the line between night watcher and Malefic Beast,
looking deep within themselves in their frequent deliriums, they frequently encounter disoriented rage.
The Wildling It's only natural that their rage is amplified by the horrifying sensation of being identified with something they hate.
If you see them rampaging like animals anywhere in Seon, using the power of the Ethereal Bow and the Malefic Beast,
you should take great care to ensure that you are not the target of their ferocious rage.
Have you ever taken a close look at the monster inside of you?
No, I'm not talking about any sort of imagined delusion.
I'm talking about the real tragedy that has befallen that battered body.
That monster is always wrapped in the flames of anger,
and it takes some courage to let go of what you've believed in order to look it in the face.
It's a horribly painful process, of course.
But when you face the burning, unclean emotions head on,
and look at it as calmly as you would a reflection in a still lake,
you realize after a long time
that when you look at it, it's been looking at you, too.
Yes, it's a step toward a tragic end,
and there may come a time when one of you will be eaten and this uncomfortable coexistence will come to an end.
But if you don't look away until the very end,
the monster you've encountered will live deep within you, lending you strength whenever you need it.
By then, you'll realize that the monster inside you didn't come from outside,
but was probably growing inside you all along.
Now, look.
The monster inside me
has grown so strong.
As the Vigilante, she is the watcher of the night.
A night when even the moon was lost in mist.
Camerin, who had been walking by the faint light of the moon, suddenly spoke up.
"Those who fight monsters must be careful not to become monsters themselves."
She cloaked herself in darkness as expertly as a skilled Moon Hunter should,
but her eyes glowed in the darkness
as if she were eager to offer advice to the overzealous newcomers.
Yes, that look in her eyes.
The same look that represented our mission to defend our home and watch for the Maleficents' ascent from the Empty Sea,
even as many of us moved to the safety of Inae,
even as the mages of Inae came and urged us to leave the lake.
We believed in the sincerity in her eyes and stood by her side.
"What if we get consumed by the malefic energy? Should we kill ourselves?"
A young voice, sounding a little frightened in the darkness, asked,
Camerin grinned as if she found the question cute.
"No, no one can force anyone to make that choice.
All I can tell you is to believe in your own existence and accept yourself.
Then, maybe..."
...And then, what did she say?
I can't quite recall, no matter how hard I search my memory, which is as hazy as moonlight.
With those last words, she headed off to Sky of a Thousand Seas to accept her appointment as the Keeper of Gravity Falls.
By the way,
I'm not sure why I'm suddenly remembering these long-forgotten memories
now that I'm in the middle of a malefic energy outburst and my life is in danger.
She was only half right that no one could force anyone to make that choice.
I accepted the malefic energy at the last moment because of my instinct to live after all,
but that half-truth has become my will to keep my sanity.
My unclean emotions mixed with the malefic energy were no longer distinguishable from each other,
and in a life-or-death situation, I decided to take her advice and embrace them.
Midnight.
For those who wield the power of the Malefic Beast, to accept their existence is to become one with the eternal darkness.
In the midst of the never-ending night,
I felt myself shedding the malefic energy that had wrapped around me like a cocoon
and reawakening into something new.
