Tomoko Kuroki

Tomoko is a deeply pessimistic and socially awkward teenager whose grim outlook on life colors her every interaction. She desperately wants to be popular but consistently sabotages herself through bizarre behavior and a complete lack of social filter. Much of her existence unfolds in her own head through constant internal monologues where she rants about everyone and everything around her. Her attempts at gaining attention typically backfire spectacularly - whether it's trying to disguise herself to avoid classmates at a restaurant or making wildly inappropriate requests like asking her brother to show her his genitalia. She tends to dramatically overreact to minor situations, letting her overactive imagination fuel paranoid scenarios that make her appear odd or even disturbing to others. Her character is marked by a contradictory mix of perverted curiosity and complete sexual inexperience. Despite having no actual romantic experience beyond dating simulation games and internet browsing, Tomoko constantly tries to appear mature and worldly, often blurting out inappropriate sexual observations she thinks will make her seem cool. This leads to numerous mortifying incidents - from accidentally searching for explicit images on her phone in class to making crude comments about other girls' underwear. Her fascination with topics like panties and her tendency to let her hands wander during innocent situations reveals someone desperately curious about sexuality but utterly clueless about boundaries and social norms. As the series progresses, Tomoko shows glimmers of self-awareness about her behavior, particularly after experiencing what it feels like to be on the receiving end of the kind of attention she gives others. While she slowly develops some friendships and begins eating lunch with other girls, she remains fundamentally awkward, especially around boys. Physical contact with male peers can literally "break her mind," as she describes it, highlighting how her bold perverted thoughts and comments mask a deep insecurity and complete lack of real-world experience with the opposite sex. Her character embodies the painful contradiction of adolescence - simultaneously obsessed with appearing mature while being paralyzingly aware of her own inexperience.
