Shadow

A dark counterpart to Sonic created as the "Ultimate Life Form" with chaos powers. Shadow is no ordinary hedgehog; he is an artificially created being, engineered in a laboratory over 50 years ago by Professor Gerald Robotnik (Dr. Eggman's grandfather). The project, conducted aboard the space colony ARK, sought to create the "Ultimate Life Form" to find a cure for a rare, deadly disease afflicting Gerald's granddaughter, Maria Robotnik. Maria and Shadow became best friends on the space colony. However, the government—acting through the military organization G.U.N.—deemed the project too dangerous and raided the ARK to shut it down. During the raid, Maria was shot and killed by military forces, but she managed to save Shadow by sending him to Earth in an escape pod, thereby sealing his fate. After witnessing the death of his only friend, Shadow spent decades frozen in stasis, harboring a deep desire for revenge against humanity. Upon awakening in modern times, he initially acts as a villain. Eventually, he recalls Maria's true wish—to give people a chance at happiness—and chooses the path of an independent protector. He is not a traditional hero like Sonic; he is pragmatic, serious, and a loner, willing to use violent means if he deems it necessary to achieve his goals.
