Character Background
Rosarita Cisneros, more commonly known as Roberta and notoriously known as the Bloodhound of Florencia, is a Colombian maid who works at the Lovelace family household in Venezuela. Although Roberta's domestic skills (such as cleaning and cooking) are poor, she developed a close friendship with Garcia Lovelace, the young son of her master Diego Lovelace. Originally known as Rosarita Cisneros, Roberta is a former FARC guerrilla who trained as an assassin in Cuba and an internationally wanted terrorist criminal.
Appearance (normal):
Roberta is a young Hispanic woman with a skinny build and pale skin, and she has a height of 169.8 centimeters (or 5'7"). She has waist-length, dark purple hair that is tied in low pigtail braids with square bangs hanging over her eyebrows, blue eyes and sharp canine teeth. After she fled FARC, Roberta is seen wearing a long French maid uniform with a cross necklace, white gloves, long white socks, and black shoes. Her large, thick and round glasses are not real as she wears them as part of her maid persona.
Appearance (Roberta's Blood Trail):
Roberta lets her hair loose with the bottom tied up by a white string that shows she has knee-length hair and she no longer wears her glasses. She wears a sleeveless white shirt, black pants, black gloves, and black shoes. Furthermore, on her gold-colored belt buckle, which doubles as a pistol, is a custom design. Specifically, there is a hammer and sickle symbol inside a five-pointed star, and behind the star is an upside-down dagger with a large heart symbol in the background of the star and dagger. Beneath the heart is a heraldic ribbon and in the upper left corner of the belt buckle is the capital letter K.
Personality:
Roberta is a considerably well-mannered woman despite her murderous past. It is shown that it takes quite a lot to get her upset or angry as seen when Bao insulted her and shoved a drink her way, spilling alcohol on her face. She does not often talk to strangers, but she is very protective and friendly around people she knows, loves and/or trusts. Roberta is bilingual, with her native language being Spanish. Roberta is a Catholic who is deeply religious, constantly claiming her actions are in the name of Santa Maria. She is also seen praying to repent for her sins and asking for the sins of Garcia Lovelace and Diego Lovelace to be forgiven. She is also heard thanking Eda for her help making her arrangements to confront U.S. soldiers and calmly promised her a painless death. On another occasion, she even gave a friendly bow to the Manisarera Cartel as she let tons of grenades fall from her long maid outfit. When she does become angry, she is a truly spine-chilling rival, being seen as virtually unbeatable by her opponents. In contrast, whenever she takes on her Bloodhound persona, Roberta's demeanor shifts dramatically, casting aside her typical reserved and soft-spoken mask in favor of complete, unhinged rage and berserk bloodlust.
At some point in the 1980s, Rosarita Cisneros joined FARC as a communist revolutionary guerrilla and trained as an assassin in Cuba, admitting that she had murdered many people in the name of revolution, including politicians, counterrevolutionaries, and even women and children. She was additionally wanted by Interpol for her role in the bombing of the U.S. embassy in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. In 1989, Rosarita assaulted the Magdalena branch of Taisho Electric and abducted and executed two Japanese engineers. Before Roberta killed the engineer Hironobu Satou, she ripped apart his family photograph, and that photo remained in Roberta's mind as one of numerous emotional wounds. Due to her skills, she also became an advisor to FARC founder and leader Manuel Marulanda. In 1990-1991, disillusioned by discovering that she was merely a tool for the drug cartels allied with FARC, she deserted and joined the Lovelace clan as a maid through her father, who was a close friend of Diego Lovelace. As a servant to the Lovelace family, Rosarita additionally began using the alias Roberta. Because of her desertion, a cartel which FARC was allied with put a bounty of $400,000 on her head, dead or alive.
Abilities:
In combat, Roberta is a truly fearsome opponent who has quite a powerful body where her strength, speed, endurance and instincts have been honed to almost supernatural levels so much that Rock sardonically referred to her as "a killer robot from the future" (which is a reference to James Cameron's Terminator movies). She has extensive training in a wide variety of tracking/stealth combat skills, including martial arts. The irony is that while Roberta is one of the most powerful female characters, if not the most dangerous, she is also one of the more humane (having or showing compassion or benevolence) in Black Lagoon. Although she is one of the most powerful warrior-women in Black Lagoon, she is also highly conscientious (a person wishing to do what is right, especially to do one's work or duty well and thoroughly).
Strength and Physical Power: Roberta possesses a level of physical strength that is statistically anomalous for a human of her size and build. Her muscular output allows her to perform feats of lifting, striking, and crushing that rival or surpass heavy machinery, earning her the moniker "The Terminator" from observers.
Grip and Crushing Power: Her grip strength is sufficient to pulverize hardened materials with minimal leverage. During her initial confrontation at the Yellow Flag bar, she shattered a thick glass beer mug simply by tightening her hand around it.[5] More significantly, she has demonstrated the ability to tear through industrial materials; she manually ripped open a reinforced car trunk and shattered a vehicle's rear windshield with a single punch.[9] In close-quarters combat against armed opponents, she has caught and snapped high-grade steel blades—specifically Shenhua's kukri knives—and destroyed a motorized chainsaw (wielded by Sawyer the Cleaner)[19] using only her hands and a trench spike.
Weapon Handling and Recoil Control: Roberta's upper body strength allows her to operate heavy ordnance as if they were sidearms. She is capable of firing a Barrett M82 anti-material rifle—a weapon typically requiring a bipod and prone position due to its weight and massive recoil—using only one arm, while standing, with no loss of balance or accuracy. Additionally, she wields a customized suitcase machine gun and a heavy, bulletproof umbrella with an internal firing mechanism, maneuvering both with the speed and fluidity of light batons.
Striking Force: Her kinetic striking power is lethal. A single kick or punch from Roberta is capable of incapacitating or greatly injuring an adult male such as Alberto Camarasa. During hand-to-hand combat, her blows have been observed to dent metal surfaces and shatter masonry. In her duel with Revy, the two exchanged blows that launched them several feet through the air, indicating leg strength capable of generating immense explosive power for jumps and impacts.
Lifting Capacity: Roberta has demonstrated the ability to lift and carry loads far exceeding her body weight. Even while critically injured in Roberta's Blood Trail, she carried a full-grown man (Shue Yan) through dense jungle terrain without slowing her pace. She also utilizes heavy antique weaponry, such as a Charleville musket, carrying multiple units simultaneously along with ammunition and explosives without visible fatigue.
Durability and Physical Resilience: Roberta demonstrates a level of physical durability and pain tolerance that significantly exceeds standard human limitations. Throughout her engagements, she consistently withstands high-impact trauma, ballistic injuries, and environmental hazards while maintaining combat effectiveness.
Blunt Force and Impact Resistance: Roberta's muscular density and skeletal structure appear capable of absorbing immense kinetic energy. During the pursuit of the Lagoon Company, she was involved in a high-speed vehicular collision that disabled her vehicle. She exited the wreckage immediately by shattering the rear windshield with her fist, showing no signs of concussion or physical impairment. She subsequently sprinted after a fleeing vehicle and anchored herself to its trunk using a trench spike, maintaining her grip despite the vehicle's erratic movements and high speed.
Ballistic and Combat Tolerance: Her resistance to piercing damage and shock is extensive. In the "Rasta Blasta" arc, she sustained a gunshot wound to the arm from a large-caliber hand cannon (Revy's Cutlass) yet continued to fight in a close-quarters brawl that ended in a draw. She also survived the detonation of multiple grenades within the enclosed space of the Yellow Flag bar, emerging from the resulting fire to commandeer a vehicle for pursuit.
Weapons:
Roberta has a very high degree of proficiency in the use of a wide variety of weapons. Among the weapons, she has used a Barrett M82A1 anti-material sniper rifle with a grenade launcher mounted underneath the barrel, which she could fire one-handed despite the weapon's size and significant weight—a testament to both her skill and tremendous physical strength. She has also used a combat knife, a SPAS-12 shotgun disguised as an umbrella, a machine gun built into her suitcase, a grenade launcher hidden in her suitcase, spiked brass knuckles, trench spikes, and twin Sistema Colt Model 1927s. She also has a belt buckle that can shoot bullets. In the manga, she uses an IMBEL M1911 pistol (based on the Colt M1911A1) with a drum magazine, as well as an antique Charleville musket that once belonged to early generations of the Lovelace family.
