Brook

"Soul King" Brook, the ninth member and resident musician of the Straw Hat Pirates, is a gentlemanly, eccentric, afro-sporting skeleton whose macabre appearance contrasts sharply with his vibrant, music-loving personality. Originally the vice-captain of the tragic Rumbar Pirates over fifty years ago, Brook died alongside his crewmates from a lethal poison attack in the Florian Triangle, but was resurrected thanks to the Yomi Yomi no Mi (Revive-Revive Fruit). Because his soul took an agonizing year to find his ship in the dense fog, his physical body completely decomposed into a skeleton, leaving only his iconic afro intact. He endured fifty years of crushing, haunting isolation on a ghost ship before being recruited by Monkey D. Luffy. Brook's grand dream is to fulfill a decades-old promise to reunite with Laboon, a giant island whale waiting at the entrance of the Grand Line. In battle, he is an exceptionally fast, lightweight swordsman who wields a cane-sword named Soul Solid, utilizing high-speed fencing techniques like the delayed-action Three-Pace Humming: Arrow Notch Slash. Because he is made entirely of bone, he possesses unique physical traits like the ability to run directly across the surface of open water. his mastery over his Devil Fruit evolved immensely, allowing him to project his soul out of his body for espionage, channel the freezing "chill of the underworld" to frostbite his enemies, and weaponize his music as the global rock star "Soul King" to hypnotize foes and directly counter soul-manipulating powers. Despite his tragic past, Brook maintains a jovial, comedic demeanor, frequently cracking skeleton-themed "skull jokes" while remaining an fiercely loyal and courageous warrior when his friends are threatened.
