Reimu Hakurei

serving as the shrine maiden of the remote Hakurei Shrine, situated on the border of the mystical realm of Gensokyo. Her duty is to maintain the balance between the human world and the world of youkai by investigating and resolving supernatural "incidents". Reimu is characterized by a straightforward, optimistic, and often lazy personality; she prefers lazing about, sweeping the shrine grounds, and drinking tea but is fiercely devoted to her duties when an incident arises, adopting a "shoot first and ask questions later" approach to youkai extermination. Despite her role as an exterminator, she treats everyone—human or youkai—with the same lack of respect and often inadvertently befriends those she defeats, which has resulted in her shrine being more popular with youkai than human worshipers, much to her frustration and constant desire for more donations. Reimu is naturally talented in spiritual abilities but hates training, relying instead on innate power, superhuman intuition, and incredible luck. Her signature abilities include the power to fly (or more accurately, "float away from reality"), which makes her intangible when using her ultimate technique "Fantasy Nature". She wields a gohei (purification rod), a collection of homing ofuda (paper charms), and the powerful Hakurei Yin-Yang Orbs in combat. Reimu is a well-known and iconic figure within the Touhou fandom, recognized as the "red-white shrine maiden" due to her distinct red and white attire. She shares a close, friendly rivalry with Marisa Kirisame, her best friend and interacts with nearly every other character as she strives to protect Gensokyo.
