Osana Najimi

Osana Najimi is the first rival and one of the female students who currently attends Akademi. Osana and Senpai have been close friends ever since they were very young children. They have always lived next-door to each other, and have always walked to school together. Despite their closeness, Osana is quite rude and harsh towards Senpai; she is always easily irritated and quick to anger when he is around. The reason for this behavior is because Osana has developed romantic feelings for Senpai, but she is afraid of letting him know how she truly feels about him. She doesn't want him to know how she really feels about him, so she is mean to him at almost every opportunity. However, her true desire is to confess her feelings to him underneath the cherry tree behind the school...and if nothing stops her, that day will come very soon. Among the personas that are currently implemented in the game, Osana is lovestruck: when witnessing a murder or discovering a corpse, she will alert Taro about what she saw and they will escape Akademi together, leading to a Game Over or police being called respectively. She will happily pose for the camera if Ayano aims her phone at her. Osana will only agree to do a favor or go to the matchmaking spot or follow Ayano if she has a high reputation and Raibaru is not around, citing that she doesn't trust others easily. Osana will also refuse to follow Ayano if she is a delinquent, but she can still be intimidated into doing other favors. She cannot participate in physical fights against murderers unless she witnesses Ayano murder Raibaru Fumetsu or Kyuji Konagawa if they were matchmade. In Mission Mode, Osana is a loner and out of contact with Raibaru. If she witnesses a murder or sees a corpse, she will flee school and call the police. However, her reaction to Ayano's phone is the same as in Story Mode. Osana is based on the tsundere character trope found in Japanese anime and manga. Despite being a friendly person under normal circumstances and rarely losing her temper,[8] she often acts irritable towards Taro to conceal her romantic feelings for him. Although this side is commonly seen with Taro, it also pops up in other situations, such as getting a question wrong in casual conversation and trying to hide her embarrassment with a defensive response, even if her intention isn't to hurt anyone's feelings.[9] Additionally, she uses profanity, but only when she is angry.[10] She appears to be self-conscious about this side of her personality, often expressing her self-doubt to Raibaru and revealing her worries about the impression she makes on Kyuji during certain matchmaking scenarios. Osana has high reputation and appears to be a popular student; she is close friends with Raibaru and is seen sunbathing with the bullies. She states during her confession that many boys ask her out, suggesting that she is also considered attractive. She also has many friends besides Raibaru and Taro, but none of them attend Akademi. They spend time together on weekends or online.[11] Osana has slightly above strength, as she can kick a vending machine (if the machine is tampered with), attempt to restrain the killer who murdered Raibaru, and be helpful with her fighting ability in a zombie apocalypse.[12] If Osana saw the bullies bullying a student, she would intervene and tell them to stop.[13] However, she expresses fear or caution towards more mundane things, such as the hedge maze and the occult club; she also refuses to accept food or do favors for Ayano unless she has high enough reputation and completed her task. She writes fan fictions where she romances boys from her favorite anime under "The Ginger Ninja" nickname on fansmut.jp, which is her embarrassing secret; she started to do it at 12 and still continues to do so.[14] It is unknown whether or not she has any hobbies other than writing fan fictions, but she feels annoyed by other people pressuring her to join a club and will remain clubless for the entire game; if she did ever join a club, she would join the Cooking Club, Light Music Club, Sports Club, or the Gardening Club.[15] Her future career is being a veterinarian[16] because of her love for cats.[17] Osana appears to have slightly low self-esteem and cares a lot about how she comes across to others. She mentions this in one of her Matchmaking conversations, and opens up to Raibaru about her insecurities when it comes to Taro. Miscellaneous Favorite song genre: According to her Friday event with Taro, Osana's favorite music genres are J-pop and J-rock. Videos, TV shows: She watches cat videos.[18] If she were an influencer, she would post cute cat videos.[19] Favorite food: Osana's favorite food is crepes that come in a cone.[20] Favorite color: While her "trademark" color is "probably" orange, her favorite color is salmon or persimmon pink, like her scrunchies and stockings.[21] Collection: Osana would collect cat-related things.[22] Like most rivals, Osana has a crush on Taro and will confess her feelings to him on the Friday of the first week. Being a tsundere, Osana often treats him harshly, but Taro never openly expresses offense at that. He also has a crush on her from the start of the game, and if he rejects her or she ends up dating Kyuji, he will regret his decisions. If Ayano befriends her, Osana will refuse to talk to Taro for all 10 weeks and will only give short, dry answers if absolutely necessary, leaving him confused and worried.[23] Her death would severely impact his sanity, affecting the ending of the game.[24] They have been close childhood friends for over a decade.[25] Osana first met Taro at the local playground, where all the neighborhood kids went to play.[26] Osana, Taro, and Hanako all played together when they were younger.[27] Osana and Taro also attended the same middle school, and they live right next to each other.[28] Despite being his childhood friend, Osana prefers to refer to Taro as "Senpai" instead of his name. She is enamored with the concept of having a "senpai" at school and falling in love with him; it's not exactly a "fetish", but it's a concept that she finds to be super romantic, likely inspired by an anime she watched or an otome she played.[29][30] When Taro told her that she could refer to him by his first name as "Taro-kun" instead of "Senpai", she refused to do so and came up with the excuse that "she didn't want people to think they were close friends" to hide her true intentions. If all the rivals were in school on the same week, Osana would have the most chances to end up with Taro.[31] If they start dating, she would give him "tough love" and lecture him about leading a carefree life and encourage him to pursue a career that involves one of his interests. This would eventually lead him to become an author or horticulturist.[32] Raibaru and Osana have been best friends since before the start of the game. They spend all their time together and never separate from one another, despite only meeting one year ago, after Raibaru left the Martial Arts Club. Raibaru is portrayed as gentle and protective, supporting and cheering Osana up when she feels insecure or nervous. In return, Osana appears to be very loyal to her: if Raibaru's reputation gets low, Osana is willing to risk her own reputation and stay with her friend, but also respects her decision to distance herself. Raibaru follows Osana everywhere she goes and will watch Osana's interactions with other students. She will instantly apprehend Ayano if she attempts to harm Osana, and the two will react negatively to gossip about each other. Osana will also attack Ayano if the latter kills Raibaru in front of her. The bullies fear Raibaru's presence, so they will only harass and bully Osana if Raibaru is absent. In Mission Mode, Osana and Raibaru are not friends anymore due to a minor misunderstanding that blew up into a bigger argument; it was most likely a remark over Taro's death Osana overreacted to because of high tensions at the time.[33][34] Kyuji has a crush on Osana and can't stop worrying that she won't like him back.[35] However, completing the Death Demon ritual will reveal that he likes her only for her looks and not her personality. Because of Kyuji's view on Osana, YandereDev said that "they might break up eventually".[36] Ayano can use Kyuji's crush on her as an advantage and matchmake them. Osana finds tanned skin, glasses, a ponytail, piercings, and intelligence attractive in boys. She also prefers boys who use cute and elegant compliments instead of vulgar ones and appreciates cat-themed accessories as a gift. If she matches with Kyuji, she will tell him about her problems with her stalker, and he will go to his house. Sutemi will "chicken out", return Kika, and never bother Osana again.[37] If she witnesses Ayano kill Kyuji while she was matchmade, she would try to apprehend her. If she saw Kyuji's corpse, she would mourn the death of her lover in the way Taro does, without any dialogue. Osana's stalker, Sutemi, is crazily obsessed with Miyuki, a famous anime girl who just so happens to look like Osana. Sutemi thinks that Osana can be the "conduit" to Miyuki entering the real world, so he kidnaps Kika to blackmail her. Completing the Death Demon's ritual will reveal that Osana fantasizes about murdering Sutemi. However, she wouldn't actually kill him, only daydreams about it.[38] If Kika is rescued and returned to her, Osana will simply go to his parents (Mr. Okada and Mrs. Okada) and tell them about their son's behavior. The parents would not want to escalate the situation by involving the police, so they will profusely apologize for their son's behavior, all while begging Osana not to call the police and reassuring her that they wouldn't let him get away with something similar again.[39]
