About mysterio
Character Background
Quentin Beck, more famously known as Mysterio, is the main antagonist of the 2019 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: Far From Home and the overarching antagonist of its 2021 sequel Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Formerly an illusions specialist for Stark Industries, Beck left the company embittered after Tony Stark unveiling his glasses as B.A.R.F., deciding to ruin his reputation by recruiting disgruntled ex-Stark Industries employees and forming Mysterio.
What Makes Him Entertaining?
Jake Gyllenhaal does an excellent job of portraying Beck's faux-affable nature, such as him complimenting Peter Parker and his crew in one moment and deciding to kill Peter and threatening his crew in the other.
Beck's ingenuity impressed Tony Stark enough to unveil his illusion-framing glasses to revolutionize therapy, despite initially revealing it as B.A.R.F, Tony ultimately rejected the name and pondered upon a better name to showcase the glasses' potential.
After recruiting ex-Stark Industries employees, Beck convinced them to form Mysterio, a superhero from another world, so that the world will anchor him as their superhero after they already lost several of them during the Battle of Earth.
Mysterio is also a great actor, not arousing suspicions from the Skrulls - Talos and Soren who are disguised as Nick Fury and Maria Hill, some SHIELD Agents or Peter Parker/Spider-Man until it was too late for them.
Even when he ended up subverting it, Mysterio encouraged Peter to not be ashamed of himself and encouraged him to go ahead in his goals. Furthermore, Mysterio was once a genuine friend of Peter with nothing indicating it was a facade as evidenced by the fact that he told Peter for what it was worth, he was sorry and later said that they were rather close.
His Mysterio outfit is heavily praised as being a comic-accurate version of his outfit.
He successfully managed to fool Peter into thinking he was dying from the Elemental attacks and let him give him the E.D.I.T.H. glasses without any real prompting on his part.
His line "Now this is an Avengers-level threat" is genuinely memetic.
Even when Peter managed to defeat him in the end, Mysterio prepared for this scenario by having William Ginter Riva doctored footage at the bridge by framing Spider-Man behind both the Elemental attacks and his death
What Makes Him Detestable?
Beck was fired from Stark Industries for being arrogant and having a massive temper tantrum, which he consistently shows in the movie.
Despite Tony appreciating his glasses, Beck was insulted with him naming his glasses as B.A.R.F. and imagined the audience laughing at it, despite the audience not laughing at him, thus showing him to be extremely self-centered.
It is demonstrated clearly that he felt no gratitude over Tony's sacrifice nor sadness for his death, merely seeing it as a window of opportunity to take his place as the world's greatest hero. This is despite the fact that Tony saved the whole universe (and by extension his own life) from Thanos.
In order to look like a hero for saving them, Beck and his minions attacked several villages across the planet using his Elementals and drones, thus killing thousands of innocent people who had nothing to do with his firing.
After Peter and MJ discovered his true nature, Beck sadistically tortured Peter by letting him think Tony sacrificed himself due to Peter being weak rather than him saving Peter and the rest of the world (including Beck himself) from getting erased by Thanos.
As a result, Beck himself didn't show any gratitude that Tony saved all of their lives at the cost of his own, only being furious at how the act made him the greatest superhero ever.
Beck threatened his crew after accidentally leaving his projector behind, despite Mysterio carelessly leaving it behind in the first place.
As a final performance for his Elemental attacks, Beck staged an attack on London and would have likely killed millions so that the world accepts him as the next greatest superhero if Peter didn't stop him.
After Peter foiled his illusions using his Spider-Sense, Mysterio had a breakdown and forced the Stark drones to fire at Peter, unknowingly shooting himself due to being caught in the crossfire.
Faked honor after Peter beat him in the bridge and tried to shoot him.
He posthumously framed Peter for his death, his own actions in London, and also revealed his identity, tainting his image and leading Peter to ask for help to Doctor Strange with a spell which gone wrong breaking the multiverse and bringing other Peter's multiversal counterparts and villains, and afterwards, Aunt May got killed by the Green Goblin, and to fix the multiverse chaos, Peter decided to make everyone forget about him, making him indirectly responsible for all those later events and causing that Peter has now to live in his own with no one to help him.
