Character Background
Echidna, famously known as the Witch of Greed, who was born over 400 years ago as the only individual to ever inherit her Witch Factor naturally from birth.
Growing up with abusive and emotionally distant parents whom she grew to despise, she never learned standard human empathy, developing a personality deeply rooted in a sociopathic, insatiable thirst for knowledge that prioritizes curiosity over morality.
In her youth, she viewed the world as small and fragile, initially driven by a twisted desire to extend her protection to humanity.
However, her crushing powerlessness to save everyone led to severe anxiety, eventually warping her benevolence into absolute greed for information and cold calculation.
She established herself as a legendary mage of unparalleled genius, mastering all six elements of magic and wielding the nearly omniscient Tome of Wisdom.
Throughout her past, she engaged in a world-saving journey alongside legendary figures like the Sage Flugel and the Divine Dragon Volcanica. She also mentored Roswaal L. Mathers, created the artificial spirits Puck and Beatrice, and established a sanctuary to protect demi-humans.
After her original flesh-and-blood body was destroyed—with historical accounts stating she was devoured by the Witch of Envy, Satella, and her soul sealed by Volcanica—Echidna preserved her consciousness in her Castle of Dreams.
From this spectral realm, she manipulated Natsuki Subaru by feigning a mentor-like persona to gain access to his Return by Death ability. However, after her offer of a contract was rejected due to her cruel indifference, she secretly siphoned her soul out of the sanctuary over a ten-year period. By successfully overwriting the body of a Ryuzu Meyer clone, she escaped into the living world under the alias Omega, traveling once more to quench her endless thirst for knowledge.
