Beatrice

Beatrice is an artificial Great Spirit created over 400 years ago by Echidna, the Witch of Greed, who tasked her with guarding the Forbidden Library inside the Roswaal Manor and waiting for an unspecified individual known only as "That Person." Clothed in an ornate, frilly pink dress and characterized by her distinct drill-shaped blonde pigtails and butterfly-patterned pupils, she puts up a haughty, tsundere facade, frequently punctuating her speech with her signature phrase, "I suppose" (kashira), to hide a profound, centuries-old loneliness. For four long centuries, she remained isolated, bound to her duty by the gospel Echidna left her, which eventually went blank and drove her into a deep depression where she secretly longed for someone to either save her or end her life. This tragic cycle of isolation is broken. when Natsuki Subaru refuses to pretend to be the prophesied "That Person," instead aggressively convincing her to choose him based on an authentic, real-world connection; this emotional breakthrough prompts her to abandon the burning library, choose life, and form an official spirit contract with Subaru. As a master of Yin (Shadow) Magic, Beatrice possesses immense magical capabilities, including "Door Crossing," which allowed her to connect the library to any door in the mansion, and devastating combat spells like Al Shamak (which banishes targets to another dimension) and Minya (which creates crystalline, time-freezing magic spikes). However, following the destruction of the library and the severing of her ancient mana-vessel connection, she can no longer naturally absorb ambient mana from the atmosphere and must rely entirely on absorbing Subaru's internal mana to survive and cast spells. Because Subaru's magical gate is permanently broken, their relationship becomes a unique partnership where they must strictly manage a limited pool of magical energy, leading them to develop synchronized, low-mana combat techniques like E.M.M. (an absolute defense field) and E.M.T. (a magic-negation field). Beyond her tactical utility, Beatrice transitions from a reclusive librarian into a fiercely loyal and loving companion who acts like a younger sister or daughter to Subaru, officially joining the Emilia Camp and bringing her profound historical knowledge, emotional maturity, and deep-seated devotion.
