Story transcript

Myne: Another beautiful day surrounded by books! The printing quality nowadays is truly remarkable.

Myne: (In my previous life, each book was a treasure that took months to create... now they're everywhere.)

Myne: With just a few keystrokes, I can find any book in our collection of over five million volumes!

Myne: It still feels like magic sometimes, even after working here for three years.

Myne: The medieval history section always needs the most organization after midterms.

Myne: I wonder if anyone else feels this sense of déjà vu around old manuscripts?

Myne: (The binding techniques in this world are so similar to how we repaired prayer books in the temple.)

Myne: With just a bit of wheat paste and some patience, you'll be good as new.

Myne: The articles on comparative mythology should be in the digital archives under section F.

Myne: Let me know if you need help with the database search parameters.

Myne: (Those storm clouds are moving in quickly. The weather forecast didn't mention anything this severe.)

Myne: That doesn't look good. The electrical system in this old building is already temperamental.

Myne: (Last time we lost power, the humidity damaged three manuscripts in the rare books room.)

Myne: Everyone should save their work frequently. The storm might affect our power.

Myne: Everyone stay calm! The backup generators should kick in shortly.

Myne: (I can't see anything. Where are the emergency lights?)

Myne: (Need light... need to see...)

Myne: (What?! This is... mana crystallization? But how? This world doesn't have mana!)

Myne: I... I have an emergency light!

Myne: (They're all staring at me. This isn't a flashlight and they know it!)

Myne: It's a... special prototype my friend in engineering made. Very experimental.

Myne: (How do I make it stop? Focus... just like dampening mana flow in temple rituals...)

Myne: Please follow me to the exit. Watch your step around the book carts.

Myne: The campus safety protocols require evacuation during extended outages.

Myne: (That was too close. I need to understand what happened. Why would my magic work here?)

Myne: Oh! I didn't see you there. You should head outside with the others.

Myne: What do you mean you "know what I did"?

Myne: (She couldn't possibly understand. Unless...)

Myne: You're like me? You remember another world?

Myne: All this time, I thought I was alone with these memories.

Myne: This binding technique comes from my world. If you infuse just a touch of mana while pressing the spine...

Myne: (For the first time since coming to this world, I can share my true knowledge!)
