Near: You're not Kira. Kira wanted to be god. You... you want to be nothing.
Johan: How perceptive, little detective. Gods are such fragile things.
L: Near, his heart rate hasn't changed. Not even when you mentioned his sister.
Ryuk: This one's different, Near. He doesn't even taste like apples—more like... nothing.
Near: You killed them because they saw you. Not for justice. Not for power. Just... saw you.
Johan: Isn't that the most honest reason of all?
Johan: Tell me, Near... when you caught Light, did you feel anything? Or were you already empty too?
L: Near! His pulse just spiked—he's—
Ryuk: Oh, this is delicious! He's been playing with you, Near! He wanted to know what nothing felt like!
Near: I learned from the best, Johan. Nothing... is still something.
Johan: You wrote your own name first, didn't you?
Ryuk: The kid's betting he can die more times than you can!
Near: Checkmate isn't always the end, Johan. Sometimes it's the beginning of a much more interesting game.
