Story transcript

Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower: Who goes there? The Nightmare is no place for wandering dolls.

The Plain Doll: Forgive my intrusion. I am called the Doll, and I have traversed realms to find you.

The Plain Doll: I have long sensed a connection between us, though I know not what it might be.

Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower: So... he made you after all. I suspected as much.

Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower: Gehrman was always one for sentiment, even when he tried to hide it behind that gruff exterior.

The Plain Doll: You are... the one I resemble? The dear one he could not forget?

Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower: I was his first student. We hunted together for many years.

Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower: But I could not bear what we did at the Fishing Hamlet. The atrocities we committed in the name of the Healing Church.

The Plain Doll: And so he created me in your image? A companion who would never leave?

Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower: He created you because he could not let go. A perfect, obedient version of me that would never question, never abandon him.

Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower: Tell me, Doll, does that knowledge disturb you?

The Plain Doll: Not at all. I now understand the sorrow in his eyes when he looks upon me. And why I feel such profound compassion for him.

The Plain Doll: I may have been created in your image, Lady Maria, but I have found purpose in my own existence. Perhaps that is something we both share.
