  • Quiet — A female assassin during the 1980s. Originally an assassin for XOF, Quiet later defected to Diamond Dogs after being defeated by Venom Snake.
  • Old Snake — Solid Snake, real name David, also known as Old Snake, and briefly known as Iroquois Pliskin, or simply Snake, is a former spy, special operations soldier, and mercenary.
  • Otacon — Dr. Hal "Otacon" Emmerich was the chief engineer of Metal Gear REX. He became a close friend of Solid Snake after Snake rescued him during the Shadow Moses Incident in 2005. Later that year, he and Snake founded the anti-Metal Gear NGO Philanthropy.
  • Sunny — Sunny Emmerich was a child prodigy in computer programming, the daughter of Olga Gurlukovich and the adopted daughter of Dr. Hal "Otacon" Emmerich.
Story transcript

Old Snake: I killed him believing he was Big Boss.

Quiet: I know.

Old Snake: When I found out later... it didn't change the fact that he was dead.

Quiet: You are not the man I expected.

Old Snake: That makes two of us.

Quiet: I found another victim.

Old Snake: ...Yeah.

Sunny: You stayed alive though. It's what he would have wanted, wouldn't he?

Quiet: Yes.

Old Snake: So then... Why come here if not for revenge?

Quiet: Because you were the last person alive who touched the end of his story.

Quiet: Not Big Boss. Not the legend. Him. The man. The one beneath the phantom.

Old Snake: Then you can have this.

Otacon: Snake...

Old Snake: I kept it.

Quiet: What is it?

Old Snake: The declassified info Otacon recovered on Venom Snake. Everything we could piece together about him.

Old Snake: I didn't know who I was killing back then. Later, when I learned... I wrote it down because I didn't want him to disappear a second time.

Old Snake: You loved him. Didn't you?

Quiet: ...Yes.

Old Snake: I didn't know him. Not really. But I know what it means to be used to kill someone else's truth.

Old Snake: And I know that love can bloom, even on a battlefield. Any time, any place, people can fall in love.

Old Snake: If you love someone, you have to be able to protect them. And that's exactly what you did for him.

Old Snake: I don't blame you if you hate me for taking him from you. I'm sorry...

Quiet: You killed him.

Old Snake: Yes.

Quiet: You were also sent.

Old Snake: Yes.

Quiet: You were also lied to.

Old Snake: Yes.

Quiet: I do not blame you.

Old Snake: ...Why?

Quiet: Because he would not have wanted me to.
